Looking outside at the rain, the mood was subdued. This was not the weather the team had hoped or planned for as they began a week of summer activities at the centre for refugees. Yet, despite the challenges, as men, women and children began to emerge from their rooms, the joy started to shine through!

Personal connections

Smiles lit up the faces of each person as they spent time connecting with the team and each other. Through the range of activities, whether drawing or painting, sports or dance, games or drama, music or a meaningful conversation over coffee, each person could find something that brought them joy.

Finding joy can often be a struggle after the experience and trauma of leaving behind family, home and country because of persecution, violence or war. The opportunity to spend time with people who love and care is something that brings great value. This summer camp is in addition to our Mehmon Team's weekly visits to the centre for refugees through which deep and meaningful relationships are built.

Community spirit

Joy was also found through connecting as a community. An inflatable slide, facepainting, sports and pizza were just some of the highlights that brought men, women and children together for a celebration. Praise God that the rain held off just long enough and that His joy could shine into people’s hearts.
