A fourth season of activities at our community centre, Dom Kultur, is complete and we are grateful for everything God has done. We have been blessed by good attendance across all activities. From September to June, our doors were opened nearly 10,000 times to welcome participants of our classes!
On Saturday 20th June we celebrated the official end of the season, which also fell on the occasion of World Refugee Day. This was particularly poignant given that the majority of our regular guests have refugee experience. We remember those who have been forced to leave their country and settle somewhere new, both those we know personally and those around the world. We recognise their stories, each with unique joys and struggles, and reflect on how we can love and serve them.
These deep emotions of pain and hope were expressed beautifully in songs performed by Chór Kultur. This is our community choir, with members from many different nations who meet weekly at Dom Kultur to practise together. The choir is a project that is more than just a preparing for a performance, but also a community where people get to know each other, support and encourage one another.
We are thankful to everyone who took part to make the event truly special including the choir and music directors, musicians, lighting and sound crew, as well as Weronika Czajko, Director of OM in Poland, for her moving speech on the challenges of migration, Anastazja Asiyuk for sharing about the array of activities at Dom Kultur, and all the volunteers for their help in organising this event.
Guests were blessed not only by moving words and beautiful music, but also delicious desserts prepared by a regular participant in our classes.
